MPA Degree Program Designed to Accommodate Working Professionals

The Clark University Master of Public Administration (MPA) program is designed to strengthen and advance the managerial and analytical skills of mid-career executives in both public organizations and nonprofit institutions.  This widely accepted professional credential is also ideal for students who have a commitment to public service and are seeking a career in a non-profit organization or a position with federal, state, or local government. The goal of this graduate level, professional program is to develop administrators who can effectively address the varied managerial, economic and political aspects of public issues and programs. The program also assists professionals from other fields who wish to make the transition to the administration of government, nonprofit, or other public institutions.

The 48-credit degree provides skills required for leadership roles in a wide range of public service and nonprofit careers. A Clark Master of Public Administration equips students with a solid academic foundation and training in research methods, public management, public affairs, nonprofit leadership, marketing and management. Students gain knowledge and can implement policies, projects, and programs within government and non-profit organizations. A graduate of this program will be able to address public and social needs in effective and imaginative ways so they may lead a career of consequence for their constituents.

MPA Curriculum

The MPA curriculum is aligned with the NASPAA global standards for public service education. As part of their core requirements, MPA graduate students will develop competencies by:

  • Understanding Organizational Systems
  • Applying ethics in the workplace
  • Seeing the value of Applied Research
  • Developing the capacity to understand the importance of Workplace Dynamics, Communication, and Career Management
  • Building a solid foundation in the Theoretical Grounding of their chosen field of study

MPA graduate students will also have the option of choosing specific areas of concentrations:

  • Non Profit Leadership
  • Public Administration Leadership
  • Educational Leadership
  • HealthCare Administration

Each concentration consists of 4 electives within the concentration cluster.  All cluster courses are conducted by Professors of Practice – thought leaders in their area of expertise.

Available in Accelerated BA/Master's Degree Format

The MPA degree program participates as one of the Clark University 5th-Year-accelerated BA/Master's degree programs. Under this arrangement, qualified undergrads can earn both bachelor's and master's degrees with the fifth year tuition-free.

Also Offered in Poland and Russia

The Master of Public Administration degree program is also offered on the Clark University branch campuses in Poland and Russia. The program focuses on the current health care system, and its methods of management. Special emphasis will focus on effective fiscal administration and human resource development, policy advocacy, and new ways of thinking about public sector organizations.

Clark University is home to the Mosakowski Institute for Public Enterprise which leverages use-inspired research to improve the effectiveness of public policies and programs of government and other institutions that address social concerns. The institute focuses on important social issues, such as education reform, environmental sustainability, access to healthcare, human development, well-being, and global change.
